Greetings from Londonderry,
Thanks to all who came out and enjoyed our successful opening weekend plus our Free Friday Ski Preview! An early season opening is always something to celebrate as it lays a strong foundation for the season to come.
We picked up another 5-6" of snow this week and we were out relishing some pow turns yesterday as we are now open on our regular schedule of Thursday-Sundays and holiday weeks. Christmas/New Year's holiday is fast approaching and Magic will run straight through from 12/26-1/4 (closed for Christmas so our employees can enjoy time with family).
With the cold weather, we've begun our snowmaking descent from the summit this week. Snowmaking hasn't stopped since last Sunday except for the snow storm. But it's been slowed a bit by a few leaky pipes which we are fixing, along with one of our compressors down, for which we brought in a back-up until it is fixed. All a part of the obstacles ski areas face day-in and day-out. As we've shown in the past, though, Magic will do "whatever it takes" to carry on and overcome to get snowmaking back to maximum production! Here's some of the snowmaking action from the summit this week which will be ongoing through early next week. Can't thank the ops team enough for their perseverance!
(Quick Update as of Wednesday 12/17: Our ops crew, with the help of Hunter Excavating, has made multiple pipe repairs and replacements this week on Lower Red Line, Medium and the Summit. So the "400 upper mtn snowmaking loop" will be back in action once this warm front move through on Friday and we will be back getting a groomed top-to-bottom skiing by next week for the holidays. We had been making snow this week on the "300 lower mtn loop" on Hocus Pocus and Nelson Family learning area to add more terrain for next week as well. Both the 300 and 400 loops will be in action Friday through Christmas at night when temperatures are cold enough. We also have fixed our 2nd air compressor so that is good for max air! Let's go!!)
We are currently skiing 6 trails Friday with more all-natural trails (LMC, Vertigo) and two glades (White Kitten, Disappearing Act) added for Saturday off Green Liftl! The comments this week on the outstanding ski conditions have been great to hear from our skiers, both first-timers and long-time pass holders. Tickets are discounted for "early season" at just $79 tickets all weekend! Plus, it's go-time for season passes, Throwback Cards, and season long youth freeride, race and devo programs. Reminder that money-saving Throwback Cards will no longer be sold after 12/24.
