Greetings from Londonderry,
Last week we attended the Indy Pass conference at Black Mt NH with over 50 ski areas from around the globe. This week, we are back here getting ready to open the Black Line Tavern for a special brunch on Sunday to help celebrate the reason we are all here: our Mothers!
The Indy conference is a testament to our ability to learn and work together with other independent ski areas to strengthen the sport of skiing. Indy resorts can and do open skiing up to more people geographically, demographically and economically, while also introducing more of our fellow Indy ski areas to current skiers/riders that otherwise might've by default gone to the duopoly of "Mega Corporate Pass" resorts that has been controlling the direction of the ski industry.
Here, we get to operate our ski area as we see fit, with our own unique ski experiences, character and product offerings. Reporting to no one but you--the skier and rider. The Indy Pass is essentially another offering we provide that expands our reach with the collective good of supporting other small to mid-size independent ski areas on the pass. And, this conference deepens our partnership and cooperative approach to tackle some of the pressing issues facing independent ski areas: from ever-growing costs to operate, shrinking insurance options, more effective customer-centric technology solutions, and right-sized lift infrastructure options moving forward.
By working together, independent operators can do more for the sport of skiing by providing an alternate vision. The Indy Pass collection of independent ski resorts will increasingly offer a strong counterpoint to big corporate control of the market--one that provides a healthy balance so that smaller places can thrive again. That's why Magic was, and is, a proud original partner of the Indy Pass.

As we move toward the middle of May, our own great and unique selection of season passes are running 10% above last year at this same date during our Tier 1-priced Early Bird sale. And if you purchase by May 15th with our auto-payment plan (no fees/interest), you'll have seven (7) full months to spread out low monthly payments through November 15th! Remember all our capacity-controlled sell-outs from this past season? There was no overcrowding, no lift lines...just good times. That's the Magic difference.

In the News:
From the National Ski Area Association: Snowsports visits across the US were down about -15% from last year due to a poor winter weather season in the West. But, you'll be happy to know that Magic paid visits were up again for the second year in a row, this year +12%!

BLACK LINE TAVERN
While our official Tavern summer schedule begins on May 20th (open Wednesdays through Saturday's), Chef Dave and the BLT crew are opening this Sunday for a Mother's Day brunch special, by reservation only, from 10a-2p! The menu and invitation are below, and it will be a brunch truly deserving of Mom and the family.

With Mother's Day approaching, I just want to thank my mom, who would've turned 100 this week on May the Fourth (be with you)-- and she was a Force! She made sure we were in Vermont skiing every weekend during the winter--no matter the weather. It was a sport and time where we could all be together doing something fun as a family. She picked up skiing only in her 20s, and while never an advanced-level skier, she loved it so. (I remember a time in high school where we took a family trip out to Utah to ski: first day at Snowbird and we took Mom right up the Tram for our first run in the morning. There was a "blue" run down. Let's just say our second run was for lunch by the time we got her down! :-) But she still conquered it! And, she passed that love and determination on to each of her kids. Unfortunately she died well before our Ski Magic investor group helped save Magic. But, I'm sure she's smiling and enjoying my own "road less traveled" taken here.
