Bird's eye view of Magic taken by Jeff DiStasio last weekend!

Greetings from Londonderry.

While the rain has set in this mid-week, we enjoyed a beautiful stretch of refreshing summer weather last week!

Besides all the regular fun we have each week at the Tavern and on the Alpen Deck, last Saturday included a celebratory occasion of love and commitment. Rohan and Joe got married with over 160 of their family and friends in attendance on the Alpen Deck under clear blue skies, and a beautifully decorated reception space in the Black Line Tavern.

These are special occasions and our team takes extra care in getting Magic looking fantastic and serving our guests so the wedding party can just focus on celebrating together! As Joe's mom said on fb:

"I can’t say enough about how wonderful the crew at Magic is. They handled everything perfectly! Devon is a very talented coordinator and made everything happen. Dave put together an incredible meal! Guests raved about the appetizers and dinner. Sharon was as always working very hard and greeting everyone with her warm, welcoming way. As always, Magic was simply Magic!I would highly recommend if you are thinking about having an event."

Our summer pass sale is hot and if you want to affordably spread payments over the next 5-months with no fees, grab your passes before July is over! It's also a good time to sign the kids up for our seasonal Devo, Race and Freeride programs with the option to select the same monthly payment plan.

Each season pass purchased helps us to invest money back into the mountain. Something we've done for 10 straight seasons! This year is no different as snowmaking improvements continue under the direction of Andrew Starr.

We are currently replacing a huge section of pipe and adding more hydrants at a critical juncture on Sunshine Corner / Wand. We've had numerous breaks over the past few seasons in this area which has slowed snow production and efficiency. 500 feet of new 6" pipe is being welded and installed with new trenching to replace some "spaghetti" work from the 80s.Another 110 feet of new 4" pipe will improve production on lower Trick at the 90 degree turn there to the intersection with Wand which has been a weak area for us.

And then comes the long Lower Wizard run-out which has had a significant stretch without any air pipe to run land guns. This required a lot of groomer pushing of man-made snow with less than optimal snow depth to have this key West Side link covered well into springtime. Now, 480 feet of new 4" pipe with 4-5 new hydrants will go in around the exit of Sorcerer. And, 600 feet of new 4" pipe with 5 new hydrants will help us bulk up the exit around Talisman to Rabbit Run!

Sunshine Corner/Wand work underway, with the help of Arc Force Welding and Kyle in the excavator.

So plenty of upgrades happening on the snowmaking front this year to #makebettermagic for every skier and rider!

BLACK LINE TAVERN

We are excited for the start of our "Dog Days of Summer" outdoor concerts. We start off with a bang as Thompson Newkirk and his band hit Magic as part of their national tour with his new hit single "What you sippin' on?"See concert details here

The show starts on the Alpen Deck at 6pm with the Jamaica Cottage Alpen Bar open as well, and the grass amphitheater available for lawn chairs and blankets. Weather looks good, so come out as Newkirk's Southern pop-rock sounds fill the Vermont air with good vibes. Plus, all the normal concert ticket costs have been covered by our friends at Oliver Automotive at Bennington Ford and Rutland Subaru, so bring all your family and friends!

Upcoming next for our Dog Days of Summer series is crowd favorite Glen David Andrews band back up here from New Orleans on August 9th! "Get up and put your hands together!" Tonight is National Chicken Wings Day and well, that fits perfectly with our 1/2 priced wings special and Trivia Night in the Tavern! Thursday is Cornhole and Locals Dinner Specials, with Friday SINGO getting us ready for Saturday's concert! Tavern is open all day on Saturday.

In closing, while we have grown in size as a business over the last 10-years as we improve all aspects of Magic, we are still a relatively small, close-knit family place and work force. So it truly takes our entire summer team to pull off a big wedding event properly and in our own uniquely personal, caring way--one family to another. So a big thank you to Paul and Devon for leading this event effort (Devon logged over 16 miles of steps that day!); and, each member of mountain ops; building/grounds maintenance; and the BLT bar, food and server staff for making wedding "magic" happen for two wonderful families!

Keeping the soul in summer,

Geoff
