Alpine Training Center

The Magic Alpine Training Center and its teams are a high-level ski development program for children interested in learning and competing in alpine racing or freeskiing. In association with Magic Mountain, the Magic Mountain Alpine Club is a non-profit club established to support the training and education of skiers of the Magic Mountain Ski Racing and FreerideTeams.

We compete across the Vernont. We are members of the Vermont Alpine Race Association (VARA) and the United States Ski and Snowboard Association. We are also one of the founding four Vermont mountains currently comprising the Ski The East Freeride Tour.

We train at Magic Mountain Ski Area in Londonderry, VT. Our training season runs from the Chrsitmas Holiday week thru Mid March every weekend and during the holiday weeks The close relationship with the resort allows us to combine incredible terrain with full mountain access to provide our skiers challenges and training opportunities not available at other resorts.

Our Magic Racing Team has race training available for skiers from ages 8-18 with a 5:1 athlete to coach ratio. This low ratio and our commitment to strengthening skiing fundamentals make the Magic Mountain Alpine Training Center unique. Magic racers compete in the Southern Vermont Council of VARA, with races begining in January and going thru early March, with opportunities for competing in State and Regional Championships. The races are held at Magic, Bromley, Mount Snow, Stratton and Willard.

While Racing has a long history of success here, the Magic FreerideTeam (MFRT) was started in 2011. MFRT is a weekend ski program (ages 10+). The program's goal is to allow athletes to develop and improve their freeskiing and boarding skills under the supervision & instruction of coaches. Our primary focus is on steeps, trees, cliffs and advanced skiing techniques. We will also focus on park skiing to help develop air sense, and to help bring freestyle tricks to the rest of the mountain. MFRT will run from 12/26/13 - 3/16/14. Weekend program will meet from 9am - 11:30am & 12:30pm - 3pm on Saturdays and Sundays 9 - 12 noon. There will be extended coaching over holiday periods.

Athletes ages 14+ can choose to compete in the Ski the East Freeride Tour. This tour makes stops at Magic, Mad River Glen, Sugarbush and Jay Peak throughout the season beginning in February. USSA licenses are recommended for insuracne purposes  (athletes are responsible for registration/lift ticket costs). A coach will travel with athletes choosing to compete. Athletes under 14 can compete in the Jr. Qualifiers to try to earn a spot at the respective comp venues.

So, if you have children ages 10 to 16 who are interested in becoming better skiers adn riders, are inspired by the athletes they see in movies and the X-games, and you want them to be able to ski any trail/terrain on any mountain you go to, then the Magic Mountain FreerideTeam is your way to accomplish that.

Finally, our age 5 and up Development Program ("Devo") allows full-season learning opportunity with no commitment to either alpine racing or freeriding programs until 7 or 8 years old. Even then, children are allowed to switch disciplines if they desire.

The full season program cost for any of these Devo or Team programs is just $695, at least 50% less than similar resort programs. And, if you register by October 15th, you can pay the discounted price of $625.
