We’ve already had a wedding here at Magic over Memorial Day weekend that was really beautiful (including a rainbow). But, what’s really fantastic about summer in Vermont is that it lets us fall in love in a different way with the same girl (or boy–but I think states are feminine).
Winter is our favorite season, of course, and a Vermont winter at Magic is like no other. Timeless.
The snow, the cold, the skiing and riding, the crisp star-filled nights, relaxing with friends by a fire–it’s so Vermont that many don’t even realize there is a whole different personality to this state in the summer. Vermont is so green in contrast to white. Everything is lush and welcoming, from the mountain trails to the rivers, ponds, quarries and lakes. Some folks don’t even realize that Vermont can get really hot–and many places don’t have AC, so people find refreshment in the many local watering holes–okay, those kind too! There are secret stashes of waterfalls (Jamaica State park and Pike’s Falls) which take you away from the routine. Find them.
If you love the outdoors, Vermont has it all in the summer. And, at Magic, we have TimberQuest which serves up adventure courses for the whole family on our hill. It’s a great way to get close to nature while also challenging yourself in a new type of sport I like to call “treecrossing”.
And, if you love music, Vermont has many classic grassroots music festivals. On the back side of Magic this weekend at Timber Ridge, the Frendly Gathering will take place with overnight camping, multiple stages with over 20 bands, yoga, swimming, skateboarding and of course, frisbee tossing and hula hoops! The music goes late into the night under the brilliant summer stars and the crowd at The Gathering lives up to its name: Frendly! (no “i” in Frends).
There’s even more music next weekend here with The Battenkillers performing at our Independence Day Fireworks celebration for the town of Londonderry on July 5th and then The Butties are playing Magic on July 6th at 8pm for their 30th anniversary party. It will be a night full of Beatles music and dancing.
Vermont’s natural beauty shines in a different but compelling way during the summer. From exploring new outdoor activities, to cool summer nights filled with music and stars, to great local food, to the wonderful people who call Vermont home–it’s like falling in love all over again until winter arrives anew.
