I don’t know about you, but it’s nice not to have your world pre-packaged all the time. Lots of businesses make a living on giving you exactly the same experience over and over again, and we are led to believe this is what we really want and need. But if we allow some room for the spontaneous, the different, the unexpected, isn’t life a bit more interesting? I imagine (because I haven’t done it) it’s the difference between going on a cruise ship vacation versus heading out on a sailboat around the islands. Both get you to a beautiful spot, but there’s a bit more adventure and serendipity setting your own course.
This is one of the characteristics of Magic that strikes a chord. It’s a ski area where the spontaneous is allowed to happen. Like other areas, we do our best to plan events throughout the winter that can be fun to participate in and watch, but Magic has always bred skiers and riders who have created their own “happenings”–on the slopes and off. There is a long list of odd occurrences here (“Moustache Day” anyone?), and spring-time certainly sows creativity.
So don’t be surprised to see a Masquerade Party up on the hill this Saturday. We hear it’s happening, but one never knows. So bring your own and enjoy some local color as we raise a glass to the spontaneous spirit that makes Magic special.
